A v2 and a special. That's all for quite a while (again). For the second time in a row, HBO is skipping seasons 7 and 8. So, just like last time, it will be another 7-8 months before they get to the end of season 6. And once again, they are skipping episode 202 with Robin Williams.
515 - The 100th Show, with David Spade & Norm MacDonald
S25 - The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, discussing his new CNBC show
The run before last they definitely did NOT skip season 8 because I remember watching many of those episodes. Who knows why they are skipping them now.
Dennis Miller's CNBC show is a very different show from Dennis Miller Live, in terms of both content and quality. I guess it's what you would expect if you took a show like Dennis Miller Live and moved it to a financial news network. It's not fair to compare to DML for that reason. The show sputtered at the beginning and then finally picked up some steam. At this point, it's mostly a news show with lots of guests, a rant here & there (very short ones unfortunately), and some other tidbits. I watch it and usually enjoy most of it, but I enjoy it mostly for the variety of guests and the smattering of good jokes that happen to sneak in. I keep hoping they add back in the longer rants (like the Cathartic Screed from the early episodes) and begin to write more consistently good jokes (particularly for the Daily Rorschach, their "Big Picture" knock-off).
Yes it's a 4-times-a-week hour-long show, but since most of that time is taken up by interesting guests, I don't see why the same writers from the DML days cannot find their groove again. The best thing about the show right now is the wide variety of guests. Yes, Dennis Miller is quite a Bush fan, but gradually more and more opposing viewpoints are being heard on the show.
The show airs Sunday through Friday at 9 p.m. on CNBC, with reairs at midnight each day. Most weeks, Tuesday through Friday are the 4 new shows with repeats the other 2 days. Useful links: CNBC Page - Audience Tickets - Episode Guide and Forums.
